Tournament End
I ended up winning first over all. There was a person there that went 5-0 but I think my soft scores bumped me up over him. I ended the weekend with 4 wins and a draw. I’m pretty sure I ended up with best painted and the highest paint score and may have gotten 1 or 2 best game votes. I won’t know all the particulars until the results are posted. Over all I had a bunch of great games and a fun weekend.
Army Performance
Dreadlord, Dark Pegasus, Heavy Armor, Shield, Sea Dragon Cloak, Great Weapon, Pendant of Kalieth, Dragon Helm, Crown of Command
He scared me game 1 after failing my first stubborn 10 test and being run down. I’m not a fan of running my general away from my core battle line but I can’t deny his effectiveness against death stars, war machines, light units, or other characters. He killed an organ gun, thunderer unit, cannon, 35 halberds with a bsb, held up a hell pit all game. He only died 2 out of the 5 games and both were kind of fluky deaths.
Supreme Sorceress, Level 4, Iron curse Icon, Sacrificial dagger, Talisman of Preservation
Providing power of darkness with the dagger makes for a strong magic phase even with just one wizard. Iron curse Icon only came into play 1 game out of 5, but that game I would have lost without it I’m almost certain. At only 5 points any foot slogger character should have it if they’re going to hang out with some infantry. Talisman saved me from a miscast a couple times and generally just makes her stay around a round or two longer than normal. Lore of metal is often over looked with Dark Elves. I think it complements us well it makes our 5+ AS go to a 3+ AS (or a 2+ hydra!) makes us better to hit with our RxB’s or in hand to hand can punk steam tanks, hydras and knights like nothing and can deal with death stars with final transmutation. I think she only died one game and was invaluable support all tournament
Death Hag, BSB, Cauldron of Blood
Only died once and it was kind of a fluke. (I failed 5 4+ saves.) Cauldrons make Dark Elves playable. She gave me buffs for my units where I needed them and held the center of my lines with the Battle Standard.
40x Spearmen, Shields, Full Command
They did not give away a single point in all 5 games. The spearmen provide a bunker for my wizard and remain steadfast for a long time. (They make great power dice too!)
20x Repeater Crossbowmen, Shields, Musicain, Standard
These guys killed a Vampire, Zombies, Skaven flamer thing, 10 elf archers, 5 reaver fast cav, lion chariot, and a gyrocopter and they did all of this without giving up 1 point the entire tournament! Very versatile unit.
5x Harpies
♥
6x Coldone Knights, Musician
A lot of people have been talking trash about how the glorious cold one knights are unusable now. I disagree… Can they charge a ranked unit in the front anymore? No. However they can sit back with your lines and threaten, counter charges, pick on light units, hold off enemy fliers and scouts or something of that nature on your flank. These guys did great for me and also died more than any other unit in my army minus the hydra but they always did their job.
20x Black Guard, Full Command, Flaming Banner, Whip of agony
Pure Murder! These guys managed to kill a Vampire lord, Wight BSB, Finish off a unit of ghouls, Punk 10 black knights that got the charge, 30 skaven slaves, grey seer, 5 dragon princes, A dwarven thane in a challenge, 35 dwarven warriors, Destroy a war alter and run down the warrior priest, kill a warrior priest, run down a unit of knights…. I’m probably missing something. If your opponent has lots of shooting just keep using the 5+ ward save and casting glittering robes if you got it and screen with harpies. Did I mention they never gave up any points?
6x Shades, Additional Hand Weapons
They didn’t kill anything all weekend other than a Skaven Catapult and unit of Jizzails. I use these guys more as a diversion, baiters or harassers than anything and they do their job well. Most of my opponents deployed their warmachines and characters wisely so they didn’t do the best they possibly could have.
Mr. Hydra
Mr. Hydra Died to 3 wraiths, Died to flaming cannons, and Died to a captain with a lance on a Pegasus and also died to a pit of shades. It might sound like I’m talking down on Mr. Hydra because he gave more victory points up in my army than anyone else, but I’m not. Because I play pretty defensively he mostly just sits around 4 inches in front of the rest of the army or on a flank and draws out their nasty things as I take out all their light units with my other units. At the end of the day he’s still 175 points. Mr. Hydra is definitely worth taking. I was the only Dark Elf player at the tournament without two of these guys. I’m curios to see how the other Dark Elf players fared.
MVP = Harpies
I should probably paint up ten more.

21 flagellants, champ
10 knights, great weapons, fc
Cannon
Cannon
Helblaster
I like this list a lot. I really enjoy lots of units and lots of tactical flexibility. I’m not a fan of point denial or 1 trick pony armies. If I played empire it would resemble something like this.
The mission was pretty interesting. It was assassination. You picked an enemy character and if you killed it on turn 1 or 2 you got 500 extra points and as the turns went the point bonus points went down. Standard take turn deployment 12inches in but you couldn’t deploy on 9inches in from the short board edges. I nominated his warrior priest in the unit of knights hoping for a good lore of metal magic phase. He nominated my wizard as it was the best chance of dying out of my 3 characters.
I deployed my standard bunker around my cauldron with the hydra and the knights on opposite flanks. He deployed with one side all his heavy hitters. The knights, flagellants and the war alter. The warmachines were in the middle and all the infantry on the other side. I then put the shades 12inches in front of his knights in some woods.
He charged the knights at the shades, they stood and shot and between difficult terrain and the volley I downed a couple of them. They were obviously bait but if he didn’t charge them they would be all over the warmachines very quickly. He shot both cannons at Mr. Hydra, one of which misfired and the other rolled a 1 to wound. Otherwise progressed his lines up. He blew through those poor shades as well but chose not to over run. My turn 1 I moved my harpies to warmachine hunt and danced about as normal in movement. I Golden hounded his warrior priest killing a couple of knights and doing a wound to the priest. Black guard moved up right in front of the knight unit and my dread lord peggy played chicken with his captain peggy. His turn 2, he combo charged with the war alter and the knight unit into the black guard but the war alter failed his charge, sealing the knights and warrior priests fate. Everything pretty much advanced in his lines. His cannon tried to grapeshot the harpies but failed to hit because of them being skirmishers. The Knights got murdered and the warrior priest with them by the black guard in persuit. Their persuit led them to be about 2 inches from the war alters flank. His helblaster misfires and does nothing to the second harpy unit. My turn 2 I charge the helblaster and a cannon with harpies and the war alter with my black guard. The dreadlord flies up his flank. I do 4 wounds to the war alter ignoring the priest on top. I kill the helblaster overrunning into the next cannon. The other harpies do a wound or two to their cannon but don’t kill it. I shot some units here and there with Rxb’s. His turn 3 his peg captain charges the flank of my hydra and does no wounds and I do none back. He wins by 2 they hydra runs and is cut down and the captain over runs into the flank of my Rxb’s. His flagellants charge my cauldron and do 5 wounds and I fail all my ward saves and he overruns and misses the flank of my spearmen unit by 1 inch. If he had gotten that it would have been game over right there. I finish off the war alter but the priest stands. I still don’t kill the other cannon. My turn 3, I charge my dreadlord and harpies into the rear and flank of his bsb large halberd unit. The cold ones charge in the flank of the flagellants just to hold them out of my infantry lines. The spearmen charge the peg captain that overran into my flank just to add some static res and preventing him from killing them outright. Because of silly placement on my part, my level 4 is in contact with his captain. I finally run down the warrior priest lord guy. Turn 4 and 5 I keep grinding down the flagellants with the cold one knights. My dreadlord and unit of harpies break his halberds with the bsb and run them down and then later charge the large sword men unit in the flank. The other unit of harpies charged the rear of the 15 swordsmen unit and broke them and ran them down. After about 3 rounds of combat the captain kills my lvl 4 but I finally get the peg captain to break and he rolls 12 to flee. I pursue with both the spears and crossbowmen and actually roll a 12 and catch him and Cody calls it after the roll.
It was looking good in his favor about mid game but 2 bad leadership checks turned it pretty far back in my favor.
I won 16 points and the full 4 bonus points.

Mr Hydra… Where did you go? :p
I’ve known Alan a couple of years but have only played against him 3 times even though hes a local player. We went into it in good spirits knowing we’d backstab each other on sports after-wards! :D
Mission was a modified watch tower. Instead of the usual all or nothing, it was just worth an extra 250 points and an extra battle point if you held it for 4 turns.
Alan anchored his center with the 3 units of warriors and the organ gun and thunderers and had a cannon on a flank and a cannon on a hill. His anvil was behind a hill. His miners were to come off a board edge. The gyrocopter was on an extreme flank. I deployed with a central battle line with the cauldron in the middle. My cold ones were on my extreme left flank and black guard on my right so he couldn’t sweep up a flank with warriors. I placed my Hydra dead center knowing his turn 1 fate.
He got the first turn. And I had to remove my beloved hydra. He hit my lord with the anvil making him not fly and half move. He advanced. My first turn I did some repositioning and moved my harpies up to threaten his warmachines. I advanced the black guard. He jumped in the building and advanced with most everything else. His minors failed the 4+ reroll to come in. He swung his gyrocopter around to the rear of my spearmen unit and flamed them getting 25 hits. We looked it up and came to the conclusion after reading its entry that it shoots as a warmachine so I took my 6+ ward save from the Icon and saved a bunch I think he still downed a little over 10. (Does anyone know if this is correct?) He shot cannon at my COB and failed to wound. The other cannon shot at my Dreadlord and bounced off. He organ gunned a harpie unit shredding them. My turn two he ruin of challenged my black guard and they failed charged. Harpies went into the cannon. I swift reformed a RxB unit to face the copter. I got enchanted blades on the reformed unit. I hit it on 4’s and wounded on 6’s with 40 shots and downed it and was very grateful. That gyrocopter in my back lines could have single handedly destroyed my entire army. I had to move my dreadlord back to block a flank charge on those same bows from his minors, if they came on. Shades and spears and black guard had the building surrounded so he couldn’t come out of the building and anvil charge where ever he pleased. My harpies whiffed horribly and ran from the cannon. His turn 3 the minors showed up and rear charged my knights off of a flank with the anvils aid. The challenge thane and his warriors charged into the black guard. The guard had glittering robe on (3+ AS) and a Cauldron 5+ on them. He started taking pop shots at the fleeing harpy hoping to snag her points but failing. Minors win combat with the knights but they stay. The thane and unit champ get in a challenge I do a wound and he does none back to me. I kill around 10 dwarves he kills 2 guard. He stays on steadfast. My turn 3 I shoot down a lot of thunderers with Rxb’s they panic but stay on the board. I get enchanted blades on the black guard. (evil evil stuff) I mostly start jogging my units over to hide from his army as most combats he’ll easily win. My cold ones miss all their attacks and are run down by the minors. My dreadlord positions himself to hit the organ gun. Black guard kill the thane in a challenge and then hit on rerollable 2+’s and wounding on 4+’s with AP, Flaming, Magical attacks! I murdered those pesky dwarves! He says “snake eyes” rolls two dice they land on double ones and he just winks as if it were his plan the entire time. It was great for a laugh! Turn 4 and 5 kind of run together. Basically he kills 20ish spearmen and I jump the sorc over to a block of RxB’s. Dreadlord Spikes the organ gun and overruns into the thunderers and kills them and reforms to look at the last cannon in the back field. Black guard finally chew their way through the dwarf block. His minors and last dwarf unit charge and I flee with both RxB’s and rally. I think I did this twice to conserve the points. I make a huge mistake on the second flee as I only have 8 guys left and it gave him a flank shot from a cannon. If he can kill a couple guys I can’t rally my unit and the lvl 4 sorceress. He either misfires or falls short though. My last turn 6 I rally everything and a harpie is 8 inches away from the table edge and rolls a 6 to stay on and keep her points and I spike a cannon with the dreadlord.
We total it up I had some units and then an underdog and a banner. He had some units and the tower. (+250) I won by 315 points. 15 points under what I had and it would have been a draw. I would love to have claimed that I won because of tactical genius but I think this one came down to a couple of lucky rolls. The lone harpy fleeing about 3 to 9 inches a turn and being an inch and a half from the board edge and him failing his sneaky cannon shot to prevent my rally pretty much made the draw go to my favor. I think we both made 1 or 2 mistakes but mine were forgiven by dice in the end.
(I've been told there were some mistakes on Alan's part this game as well. The anvil could not have targeted my dreadlord. They can't target single characters unless they or there mount is a large target. He couldn't have rune of challenged my black guard because they are immune to psychology. Also the slow movement only robs flyers of fly or makes a nonflying unit move at half speed not both. The effects don't stack.)
I win 16 points and get 1 bonus point.

I loved his list, a very balanced fun MMU army! (How elves should be played)
The mission was a wall (obstacle) in the center you could mine bricks off of (d3-1) and distribute to your units giving them +d3 combat res. (one use only) otherwise pitched battle.
In his deployment he deployed almost exactly how I do every game. He had a strong infantry base with the bsb and general on one side yet still kind of in the middle, a weak flank with a strong unit to support it and fast units spread through the lines to support or take out smaller units where needed. Basically he played a mirrored list and deployment to mine only of the high variety instead of dark. All in all it was one of my best games and most tactical ones I played all weekend. Our strong flanks and weaker flanks were opposite of each other so we ended up playing a dancing game the entire time.
He vanguarded the reavers up so he could have a first turn mine from the wall. I got first turne and shot them down to 2 guys left and otherwise repositioning and advancing the hydras and harpies. He advanced and shot from the back and tried to pit my hydra but failed. I shot his chariot to pieces and advanced the hydra and harpies forward again. One unit of harpies charged a 10 man archer unit in the flank. We exchanged some wounds and they fled fleeing through another unit and making them flee as well. Both units stop an inch or two away from the board edge one of them having the lvl 2 wizard. I finish off his reavers and his lion chariot. His turn 2 he realizes his army can’t hang with my shooting as he advances so he starts backing up. He pit of shades my hydra and sucks him into a black hole. From here I’ll just hit the highlights as turns run together. My shades on his flank basically constantly fleeing from his shooting or charges and constantly rallying the entire game. I quick reform my knights on a reroll ten and fail exposing my flank to the dragon princes. He charges with the princes to my knights I flee only running off the board on a 12… so I roll a 12 giving him the points. (I now realize because of stupidity in 8th I couldn't have fled. It wouldn't have changed much though as he got the points for my knights and in turn I got points for his.) He asks if my black guard have the flaming banner then redirects the princes into them. I some how take zero wounds from the charging princes and kill one of them. He rolls a 10 for leadership and checks his bsb only to realize the one model he pulled off brought him out of range. We proceed to run them down. He kills a harpy unit with a bolt thrower. He shoots my dreadlord with a bolt and does 2 wounds to him. I charge last turn with my dreadlord at some archers to finish them off on his stand and shoot he apparently hits the poor dreadlord in the eye and finishes him off… The game ended in a draw with me in the middle of the board and him on the very back of his board edge. It was a very tactical movement game with magic and shooting galore. I think I final transmutationed a unit 3 times and couldn’t snipe his general or make him fail some stupidity tests. It may sound uneventful but this game was the most edge of your seat game the entire tournament. My coldones running off the board mid game and me giving him my general to a lucky stand and shoot the last turn cost me the game, but that’s dice.
It resulted in a draw. We both got 8 points and both got 1 bonus point.

Shiloh Slaughter Game 2
Game 2
Brian
Skaven
(My list can be found on the game 1 post.)
I’m not to familiar with Skaven to be honest and he had a lot of stuff. So I may forget a unit or two or not know the name of something…
Grey Seer, Bell, Items?
Hero Bsb, Items?
Engineer, Rocket thingy
Plague hero? Items?
25ish Plague monks, No fly and -2 to shoot banner
Catapult
10 Jizzails
35 clan rats, FC
35 clan rats, FC
35 clan rats, FC
Hellpit
Doomwheel
Flamer cav base thing
30 slaves
30 slaves
30 slaves
40 clan rats FC (bell inside)
This will probably be the least entertaining report. We only made it to turn 3. I had a zillion questions the whole time we played. (second time ever playing against skaven) We also had a couple rules disputes. (Nothing heated or nasty though.) Glittering robes scaly skin stacking with armor. My argument is yes because lizardmen would be silly if it didn’t stack and as I understand it it’s a different type of armor than “armor”. Also if an area of effect spell could hit my unit that was out of area but in combat with a unit that was in the area. The judged ruled my favor saving my shades that were in combat with his catapult were not hit.
The mission to be honest I don’t even remember at all. It had something to do with pigs… we both had two miniature pigs. They never came into play to my memory. It was a diagonal deployment though without the reserves rolling.
He deployed around his bell unit with almost everything. Bsb right behind and blocks of rats encircling it. Doomwheel on far right flank and frenzied guys on far left flank. Also his Jizzails and catapult were on a hill beside the frenzy guys. He put his Hellpit front and center in his lines as close as he could to me. I deployed in a building with rxbs and the sorc. I surrounded the building bunkering up with harpies in front and hydra on one flank and the knights on the other. My shades went on his flank hoping to draw the frenzy guys on a wild goose chase the whole game. He didn’t fall for it and ignored them. (as he should have) I ended up just warmachine hunting with them.
I got turn 1 and he popped the banner. (I have some shooting and flying… Shrug) In our 3 turns he never failed a banner throw. So I never flew or really killed much with shooting. I mostly repositioned to adjust to his deployment. The shades marched up really close to his flank with the warmachines. In his turn 1 he moved up towards my line but otherwise nothing of any notoriety. My turn 2, I charged his hellpit with my Dreadlord and a slave unit with the black guard. The shades charged the catapult. I picked off his flamer thing with shooting. Dread lord does some wounds to the Pit and takes none. My Black guard destroy the slaves (shocking I know) and overrun into the bells unit. I do some wounds to the catapult but it lives. His turn 2 he got some gross spell off that terrified me… but luckily it killed more of his rats than my elves! (I don’t know if it was magic or the bell. It was a 12 inch radius thing.) His monks charge my harpies, which in turn flee and he redirects into the hydras flank. Some slaves charge my other harpies and they flee. His doomwheel rolls 3 1’s to move. I do more wounds to his Hellpit and take 1 or 2 wounds this time but we both stay. I kill the grey seer on the bell and dice up 15 clan rats. My hydra is on fire and literally kills a massive amount of monks taking no damage in return. I run them down or kill them to the man I don’t recall. I finish off the catapult with the shades. My turn 3 I charge some coldone knights into a unit of clan rats with the engineer in the front. (They didn’t have a choice) I hit a unit of jizzails in the flank with 3 shades. I get the hellpit to 1 wound, kill the engineer with the cold one knights and run down the jizzails. I don’t recall what happens on his turn but the game ends here.
I end up with a win for 16 points and receive 1 (2?) of the bonus points.

Shiloh Slaughter Game 1
The Shiloh Slaughter is a 2 day Indy GT event in Arkansas. (US)
I didn't take any pictures at the event even though I charged my camera and brought it specifically for that purpose. Glad I finished painting up my army the day before the tournament. It ended up really paying off. This is all off memory so I'm just going to give summaries of my games.
My List
Dreadlord, Peggy, reverse ward, dragon helm, all mundane armor, great weapon, Stubborn crown
Lvl 4 Sorc, 4+ Ward, Iron curse Icon, Sac dagger, Metal
Hag, Bsb, CoB
40x spears, Shields, Full Command
20x Rxb's, Shields, Muso, Standard
20x Rxb's, Shields, Muso, Standard
5x Harpies
5x Harpies
6x Shades, 2xHW
6x Coldone Knights, Muso
20x Black guard, Full command, Flame banner, Whip of Agony (love the BG Whip!)
Mr. Hydra
There were 4 Dark elf players at the tournament.... I was the only one with out 2 hydras... ;) The tournament was about 50ish players. (I don't recall the exact number) All around I had an absolute blast and a great weekend with friends and fellow players. The lists should be pretty close I may forget a unit or two or be off on numbers by a couple, but should give you a pretty good idea of what I was up against.
Game 1
Jason
Vampires
Vamp,Lord, ring and magic and +1 res powers
Vamp, Hero, Nightmare, H2H
Wight, Bsb
Necromancer
Corpse Cart
40 zombies
10 black knights
30 ghouls
30 skelly warriors
Vargouf
4 big bats
4 big bats
3 wraiths
The mission was a blind deployment. You started with cardboard up and could not see where your opponent deployed. After both of you deployed you removed the card board. It was also hidden list meaning you didn't know about magic items your opponent had until it came up... Against VC this terrified me! Haha! Everything else was standard pitched battle after this.
He deploys left to right his bats, flying hero, zombies, black knights, ghouls, skellies, vargoyf, bats, with his cart being behind his lines. I deploy strong left flank with fast units on the right, Harpies, Harpies, Hydra. My Coldone knights on my extreme left flank to maybe get a support charge in and threaten his flankers.
He got first turn and generally moved everything up. He tried to cast a spell from his Vamp lord and miscast rolling a 2 on the miscast table and blowing up about 22ish ghouls and ending his phase. My turn one I reposition and charge some harpies at his big bats and my Dreadlord at his black knights. I whittle down the already low ghouls with shooting. Harpies kill one or two bats and stick and the Dreadlord scrubs all his attacks and and flees and is run down. (not so unkillable) He charges his unit of black knights into my black guard... and otherwise just advances. My harpies flee but get away from his bats. My black guard destroy his black knights in a most horrific black guard fashion. My turn two. I charge the second units of harpies in the wounded bats. Shoot up the ghouls more. I kept trying to get enchanted blades on my rxb's in a building to shoot down his wraiths I think I only ever killed 1. My harpies punk his bats. His turn 3 his Zombies charge rxbs as well as the flying vamp I stand and shoot the vamp doing a wound. His bats come sit in front of my knights to prevent a flank charge next turn. His Vargoyf fails a charge. (I think he failed charged with him last turn as well.) His Vamp lord and about 10 ghouls and bsb wight charge the black guard. Wraiths charge my hydra. Wraiths kill my hydra by running him down. :( My black guard finish off the ghouls. I swung all my Rxb's attacks at the zombies to get combat res to finish off the flying vamp. He also got off a spell to make an ethereal host and placed him to redirect my spears. In the next round or two I finish off the necromancer with a suicide shade charge, I kill his bsb, his other units of bats, his zombies, and his Vamp lord dies to res and he rolled a 1 on his 2+ to stay alive and removes his Vamp Lord and Concedes.
I end up with a win 16 points and get all 4 bonus points.
