Zombies, Skeletons, and Zombies OH NO!!!

I got a rather large commission last month. It was 88 zombies, 108 skeletons, and around 14 unit fillers. A friend of mine was building a Vampire Counts army and needed them by the Bugeater GT. So another local army painter and I split up the army. I took all the mass infantry and he took all the large models and characters. I decided that I would dip the army. The army was massive and didn't have to be the highest quility but he wanted them looking pretty good. I ended up purchasing Army Painters dip and using it on the entire horde. The turned out great and he was pleased with them. I could go another year or two without seeing a VC model though.

This was my favorite part about the commission. It's a dire wolf stealing the army off of a zombie and the zombie trying to chase him down to get his army back! :)

High Elves vs Gravestar Vampire Counts 11/24

Fighting Twilight

I've updated my list a little. I've decided to drop the bow of the seafarer as it never really did anything other than kill a couple of guys here and there. I've added in the gem of hoeth. My prince is a lvl 1 shadow and usually takes miasma. I believe this works wonders in the list and synergizes well with the heavy amount of shooting. The obvious slowing down to shoot but more importantly smoke and mirrors to trade my prince out to save my bsb or lvl 4 out of a hairy situation.

My latest list;

Prince, Shadow, Jewel of Dusk, Armor of Caledor, GW, Longbow
BSB, Reaver bow, Dragon Armor, GW
LVL 4, High, Annulian Crystal, Dragonbane Gem, Ring of Fury
LVL 2, Metal, Seerstaff
30x Archers, FC, Flamebanner
10x Archers, Muso
13x Archers, Muso
29x White Lions, FC, Skiensliver, Banner of Sorcery
3x Bolt Throwers
2x Eagles

The Gravestar list;

Vamp Lord, Red Fury, +3 attacks, Hatred, Dragon bane gem, LVL 3
Vamp, LVL 2, Ghoul march
Vamp, LVL 1, Nightmare, 3+, 4++
W King, BSB, Regen Banner
40x Ghouls
40x Ghouls
40x Grave Guard, FC, Hatred banner, GW
Black Coach

He didn't want to roll up a mission so we just played a pitched battle.
I chose final transmutation and Enchanted blades. (to deal with an ethereal BC) Miasma on the Prince. I rolled up Arrow attraction, Fury of Khaine, Flames of the Phoenix and Vauls unmakeing. I don't remember what spells he had.

Deployment goes something like this.

Photobucket

Left to right he has lvl 1 vamp on flyer, ghouls, graveguard all characters, ghouls and a black coach.
I have archers, archers with the lvl 2, Eagle, Bolt Thrower, 30 archers with lvl 4 and bsb and prince, Bolt thrower, Bolt thrower, White Lions and an Eagle. He free marched his ghouls up and rolled up the first turn.

VC 1
He marches up. He tries to Vanhels the GG and I stop it.

Photobucket

HE 1
Eagles fly up to stall the ghoul units. I move some units a bit here and there to open up fire lanes and flank charges. Magic targets the ghouls. I get off flames of the pheonix and one fury of khaine. Curse and the other fury of khaine and vauls on the Deathstar are all stopped. Only 16 ghouls remain after magic and shooting.

Photobucket

VC 2
He charges the two eagles with his ghouls. His lvl 1 fails a stupidity test and sits outside the building. The GG march up and the Coach moves up as well. Magic sees him fully power up his BC and vanhels the GG unit. He kills the right hand eagle with poison alone and reforms. He does no wounds to the left eagle and I do one or two and tie combat.

Photobucket

HE 2
Move the White lions up to fight the upcoming grave guard unit. The far left unit of archers steps into the building. A couple units scoot here and there to anticipate the next turn. Magic sees flames go off again on the ghoul unit leaving only like 7. Curse of arrow attraction and ring of fury go off on the Grave Guard unit. I get a 6 dice final transmutation off on the GG unit as well and drag 18ish of them to become golden statues as well as sniping the lvl 2 out of the unit. Shooting sees everything that has LoS to them fire away leaving only the bsb, lord and 7 ranks n files left. In combat he kills the eagle and reforms.

Photobucket

VC 3
The left ghouls charge my bolt thrower. The grave guard went ahead and charged into the lions. The right ghouls tried to charge the flank of the white lions but rolled snake eyes. The coach moved up again. His far left vamp failed his stupidity again! His magic saw his only caster the lvl 3 lord try and res some GG. I let the one D6 one go through and stopped the rest. He got 2 or 3 GG back. His ghouls blew through my bolt thrower and attempted to over run into my archer horde but failed. His vamp lord was a brutal beat stick from hell. (BBSFH) He got around 12 kills on the white lions. I did one wound to the lord and killed most of the unit. I think left him with 3ish GG.

Photobucket

HE 3
I charged the prince out of the archer horde to hit the flank and hopefully kill that bsb. Magic sees flames of the phoenix on str 5 kill all but one ghoul on the left. I told him I would shoot everything at the ghoul and he removed it. My prince and 6 white lions kill the bsb and do another wound to the BBSFH. I also leave only the the unit champ of the GG unit alive. The BBSFH does an insane amount of wounds to the white lions once again. I manage to win by 1 though. Forcing him to pop the general or the GG unit champ. He concedes.

This was a quick game. I think I played pretty well in this game and I think he made a mistake by throwing the coach that far on the flank. With so few drops I easily just threw everything on the other side. While this probably wasn't the most exciting battle report to read, It was a battle I needed to play. We don't really have a local VC player and when I found one and then found out he ran a "dirty" list I was excited because I was curious if my list could handle such a nasty list. Now I just have to find a nasty skaven player to play. We have one or two locals but their pretty low on skill level.

Cheers

Dwarfs Ard Boyz Round 2 Game 3 2011

Ard Boyz Round 3

Can’t remember his name… 

Vampire lord, kitted out for hand to hand each wound can bring back a guy.
Vampire lord, lore master beast, dish out WS
Vampire hero, on a horse
Bsb with regen banner
15 to 20 Skellies for lore master bunker
30 Skellies
36ish Ghouls
29 Grave Guaurd
9 Blood Knights

Mission was a modified blood and glory. I had a fortitude of 6 and he had 7. The deployment also helped me as he couldn’t deploy 9inches in on the flank. After I saw his deployment I threw my nasty on his ghoul flank trying to minimize the Blood knight monster unit.

Photobucket

Turn 1a
I march up the Longbeard rangers to get in his face and hit his blood knights for d6 str 4 hits just to half their movement. I can’t remember but I think I actually killed one! I shot my cannon at the small unit trying to snipe the caster vamp inside and failed.

Photobucket

Turn 1b
His blood knights fail a re-roll 10 leadership for stupidity and lurch forward! I felt for him at that point. Everyone else positioned to face the new threat. He casted randomly do 1 wound to everything and make a spirit host. He ended up with 1 host. And used it to protect the flank of his grave guard but with only 1 base it wasn’t quite enough.

Photobucket

Turn 2a
I get both miners on the board and position to get a flank on the ghouls and the others to get a flank on the grave guard. I roll for ancestral power and it goes off. I roll my D3 and am excited to see a 3! I charge into both flanks and the Rangers in the front. I shoot some more cannons at the Blood Knights and maybe kill 1 or two. I blow up one of my own cannons. I kill just enough through res and kills to kill the ghouls to the man. I over ran the Rangers into the caster Vampire and his bunker and reform the Miners. The Miners fighting the Grave Guard kill some and tie them up. Getting all reserves in turn 2 and getting 3 units to charge and killing the ghouls to the man make for the best turn ever!

Photobucket

Turn 2b
His skellies charge my miners just to tie them up. And it works for about 3 or 4 turns. He reforms the Spirit Host and starts marching his Blood Knights. I kill his bunker unit and over run hopeing to make it to the 6 inch away graveguard and then utterly smash that unit. They only roll 3 inches and fail though. Everyone else fights with the dwarfs winning and undead taking a couple of casualties. His Grave Guard reform to face the Miners. (or maybe they did this last turn?)

Photobucket

Turn 3a
SPLAT!!! Cannon to the Vampire Generals face. I charge the grave guards flank. Other wise everyone chews down some guys and stick.

Photobucket

Turn 3b
Blood Knights charge in with 3 guys and the mounted hero vamp. Spirit host charges in. The game officially becomes a war of attrition. I think it’s in my favor though with instability kicking in and my high strength attacks and superior numbers.

Photobucket

Turn 4a
More war of attrition.

Photobucket

Turn 4b
From here on I forget the turns but I slowly eat away at everything and table his remaining blood knights.

Photobucket

(Forgotten name) was a pretty cool guy. He had a solid army but in the end I had a couple of amazing rolls that decided the fate of the game. I think I played really well and those couple of good dice rolls made the game from a hard fight to a solid victory. We only had one rules dispute but in my mind it was a pretty big one. He had only a character bsb left and was trying the revive the grave guard unit. Every other tourney player there agreed with me but apparently the TO ruled in his favor game 1. I was eventually able to prove my case though through rules and other players. All in all a fun game.

Shiloh Slaughter Game 1

The Shiloh Slaughter is a 2 day Indy GT event in Arkansas. (US)

I didn't take any pictures at the event even though I charged my camera and brought it specifically for that purpose. Glad I finished painting up my army the day before the tournament. It ended up really paying off. This is all off memory so I'm just going to give summaries of my games.

My List

Dreadlord, Peggy, reverse ward, dragon helm, all mundane armor, great weapon, Stubborn crown

Lvl 4 Sorc, 4+ Ward, Iron curse Icon, Sac dagger, Metal

Hag, Bsb, CoB

40x spears, Shields, Full Command

20x Rxb's, Shields, Muso, Standard

20x Rxb's, Shields, Muso, Standard

5x Harpies

5x Harpies

6x Shades, 2xHW

6x Coldone Knights, Muso

20x Black guard, Full command, Flame banner, Whip of Agony (love the BG Whip!)

Mr. Hydra

There were 4 Dark elf players at the tournament.... I was the only one with out 2 hydras... ;) The tournament was about 50ish players. (I don't recall the exact number) All around I had an absolute blast and a great weekend with friends and fellow players. The lists should be pretty close I may forget a unit or two or be off on numbers by a couple, but should give you a pretty good idea of what I was up against.

Game 1

Jason
Vampires

Vamp,Lord, ring and magic and +1 res powers
Vamp, Hero, Nightmare, H2H
Wight, Bsb
Necromancer
Corpse Cart
40 zombies
10 black knights
30 ghouls
30 skelly warriors
Vargouf
4 big bats
4 big bats
3 wraiths

The mission was a blind deployment. You started with cardboard up and could not see where your opponent deployed. After both of you deployed you removed the card board. It was also hidden list meaning you didn't know about magic items your opponent had until it came up... Against VC this terrified me! Haha! Everything else was standard pitched battle after this.

He deploys left to right his bats, flying hero, zombies, black knights, ghouls, skellies, vargoyf, bats, with his cart being behind his lines. I deploy strong left flank with fast units on the right, Harpies, Harpies, Hydra. My Coldone knights on my extreme left flank to maybe get a support charge in and threaten his flankers.

He got first turn and generally moved everything up. He tried to cast a spell from his Vamp lord and miscast rolling a 2 on the miscast table and blowing up about 22ish ghouls and ending his phase. My turn one I reposition and charge some harpies at his big bats and my Dreadlord at his black knights. I whittle down the already low ghouls with shooting. Harpies kill one or two bats and stick and the Dreadlord scrubs all his attacks and and flees and is run down. (not so unkillable) He charges his unit of black knights into my black guard... and otherwise just advances. My harpies flee but get away from his bats. My black guard destroy his black knights in a most horrific black guard fashion. My turn two. I charge the second units of harpies in the wounded bats. Shoot up the ghouls more. I kept trying to get enchanted blades on my rxb's in a building to shoot down his wraiths I think I only ever killed 1. My harpies punk his bats. His turn 3 his Zombies charge rxbs as well as the flying vamp I stand and shoot the vamp doing a wound. His bats come sit in front of my knights to prevent a flank charge next turn. His Vargoyf fails a charge. (I think he failed charged with him last turn as well.) His Vamp lord and about 10 ghouls and bsb wight charge the black guard. Wraiths charge my hydra. Wraiths kill my hydra by running him down. :( My black guard finish off the ghouls. I swung all my Rxb's attacks at the zombies to get combat res to finish off the flying vamp. He also got off a spell to make an ethereal host and placed him to redirect my spears. In the next round or two I finish off the necromancer with a suicide shade charge, I kill his bsb, his other units of bats, his zombies, and his Vamp lord dies to res and he rolled a 1 on his 2+ to stay alive and removes his Vamp Lord and Concedes.

I end up with a win 16 points and get all 4 bonus points.
